
Caroline Penwarden is an Oakland-based multi-instrumentalist, improviser and composer with a broad range of musical interests. A pianist for 32 years, her work spans from pieces for jazz bands, rock bands and folk bands, to choral work incorporating experimental vocal techniques, to works that combine music and movement, to film scores, dance scores, chamber music, electronic music and solo sound-scapes. Current projects include scoring videos for the Chasing Glaciers web-tv project, playing various instruments in the Sarah Elena Palmer ensemble, scoring an Australian film, and collaborating with choreographer Sonsheree Giles and multi-media artist Jerry Smith to create "Magic Garden". She also recently had the honor of performing with The Beth Custer Ensemble in the Bay Area as well as opening for Fred Frith at The Stone in New York.
